LIGHT POLLUTION AWARENESS

The effects of light pollution on how we see the night time skies are dramatic.

It is estimated that nearly 30% of outdoor lighting is wasted due to this poor design. In the United States alone, wasted lighting accounts for 1.7 million tons of carbon dioxide and $2.2 billion in wasted electricity each year.

Light pollution may not be considered important until we realize its impact and what we are missing.

Luminous pollution is caused by using outdoor lights when and where they are not necessary.

Unshielded light fixtures emit more than 50% of their light skyward or sideways.

Gift bag featuring an element of discovery exposing how pollution can make the magic of the night sky undiscoverable.

When empty, the words LIGHT POLLUTION are exposed in the pattern of the Big and Little Dipper. But then disappear when an element is introduced and inserted in to the bag, similar to introducing light to a night time sky.
